Domestic caustic soda industry is facing overcapacity problems

According to relevant statistics show that from January to November 2011, China's total caustic soda production was 22.639 million tons, compared with last year's 19.61 million tons, an increase of 15 percent, caustic alkali cumulative production of 13,738,000 tons, accounting for the domestic caustic soda 61% of total production.

Investment Advisor in the chemical industry researcher Yi-Chi Chang pointed out that although China now caustic soda industry has a serious excess capacity, and the country also has made it clear the new restrictions caustic soda production plant, but in recent years the domestic caustic soda industry's capacity expansion is still faster. This severely restricted the sustainable development of China's caustic soda industry. According to relevant statistics, in 2011 China plans to build caustic soda production capacity of up to 8 million tons.

Chang Yongzhi also pointed out that in addition to the problem of overcapacity in China's caustic soda industry, there is still a relatively large problem of backward production capacity. In recent years, although China has stepped up the elimination of the backward production capacity of the caustic soda industry, in 2010, China's diaphragm caustic soda production capacity reached 4.74 million tons. In the first half of this year, only the production capacity of the diaphragm caustic soda production capacity of 295,000 tons was eliminated, and the backward production capacity of the caustic soda industry in China was eliminated later. There is still a long way to go.

In addition, the lack of industry concentration is also an important issue facing the caustic soda industry in China. According to relevant data, there are many small and medium-sized enterprises in the caustic soda industry in China, and the industry concentration is low. By the end of 2010, China had produced 176 caustic soda enterprises, but most of the enterprises' production capacity was relatively small. Among them, there are 164 companies with less than 300,000 tons, and the cumulative production capacity accounts for more than half of the total domestic caustic soda production capacity.

The "2011-2015 China chlor-alkali industry investment analysis and prospects forecast report for 2011-2015" released by China Investment Advisors shows that caustic soda is a basic chemical raw material, and the main production processes are diaphragm electrolysis and ion membrane method, which have been widely used in papermaking and textile ( Printing and dyeing, chemical fiber), alumina and other industries. The paper industry consumes 25% of caustic soda, the textile industry consumes 19%, and alumina consumes 7%.
